Custom Mobile Homes Understanding Your Options

Home buyers often overlook the great value offered by a manufactured home that can be customized to fit their lifestyle. Buyers can choose from hundreds of designs, but they can also create their own manufactured home design by customizing any of our floor plans. You can also combine your ideas with the existing manufactured home designs.

Usually, in a stick built house, I would add a header beam and support posts at the correct size per span foot, etc. Not sure how to do that in a mobile home where the main structural load integrity is at the exterior walls built on a chassis. Just not sure that is wise the REAL issue is the roofline and I haven’t really seen it addressed anywhere.

Floor Plan

Thanks for the info on the different ideas on remodeling. You can sit and try to imagine what it would look like, but until it is done you really don’t have any ideas. Those in the for front are the ones taking the chances in the models they come up with.

When you think about your dream home, you’re probably visualizing the features and styles you want. From your dream kitchen with a large island to plenty of space for your growing family, it may be hard to find a home that has it all. But when you choose Clayton, your perfect home doesn’t have to be just a dream. Yes, in most cases, you can extend the size of a mobile home. Expect the cost to vary based on the size and complexity of the project. If you are adding a cheap carport, you may only need to shell out $4,000.

build your mobile home

If you build onto a mobile home like you would house stress can cause structural damage. So, the addition will be attached and sealed along the roof, siding, and flooring. But the weight of the addition is not transferred to the home via these attachments.

Interior of a Mobile Home Addition

If you don’t want to go that route, you can always build a deck or a porch. When expanding a mobile home, make sure that the addition has its foundation to support the weight evenly. Instead of relying on the mobile home, it should stand entirely on its own despite its proximity.

Our Construction Process Champion's building process has been producing quality manufactured and modular homes over six decades. Energy Efficient Our energy efficient homes offer comfort and quality while embracing green construction processes. Well-built mobile home additions can be moved to a different location. For example, if you plan to move the mobile home itself, the addition can follow.

I have a doublewide, 24X52, that is currently in a park, but fully paid for. We are in the process of purchasing land that is raw, needs to be developed, that we would like to move our home on to, and then make it bigger. I would like to have built on the lot a 18X52 modular extension, which would go in-between the two halves of my home, turning it from a 24X52 to a 42X52. We are adding on another room, off the living room slider door area, to expand said living room. Am I stuck with just that 6′ slider door hole being the only opening? Or can I cut the exterior wall back a few more feet on either side of the opening to make it all 1 smooth walled room?

When the project is complete have the engineer sign off on the modification. If you ever have to refinance or sell, the mortgage company is required to have an engineers report for any modifications or an inspection by state agency if there is one. Also never remove the Hud tags from the outside and never remove the Compliance Certificate in side aka The sticker with a map on it. If you do, you will need to obtain letters from IBTS for any one of these missing. Additions have to be build separately due to structural issues, not titling or foundation.

We work with factories every day to make our customers' design requirements into the homes they want. We are experienced in making your home just as you want it to be and we don't believe you should buy a home that will not meet your needs and that you will not enjoy. We can include large islands and tons of cabinet space as well as pantries. You can have a large farmhouse sink with a modern and beautiful faucet surrounded by granite or Corian countertops. Unique materials and designs are available for backsplashes. A highly desirable feature is the complete array of stainless steel appliances.

The addition is simply ‘butted up’ and attached to the mobile home, and ‘sealed’ so nothing impedes the separate movement. Starting with the cosmetics, you should make sure that quality window designs are integrated. You can also incorporate special lighting fixtures to create the desired mood. As you build your own double wide home, it’s important to pay attention to the regularly used features, like sinks, faucets, and cabinets. Given the constant use of these areas, they should be well-designed and fitted with the right equipment to enhance your enjoyment of the overall atmosphere.

SUPPORT

Structurally, the manufactured home will move and settle separately from the addition. You should have no issues building a separate garage with a second story beside your manufactured home assuming it meets your local codes. An addition with a full roof over on It is independently supported, has wired smoke detectors, an exit, sits on an 18″ grade, and is built with pressure-treated wood. It may not be great looking but it had what it needed to pass its inspections and current codes are not lax at all. The bottom drawing in the image above is showing the home and addition from the top, looking down.

This makes an excellent option for anyone looking for affordable housing that they can tailor to suit their family’s individual needs. The layout of your new manufactured home will be one of the most important aspects of the buying decision. This is the reason that manufactured home builders offer such an array of floor plans and customization options. They know that each manufactured home buyer has different needs and desires. This personalized aspect of manufactured housing construction is what makes a manufactured house a home. While many floor plans are similar, many are very different.
